Traditionally the custard is prepared with eggs and I have a foolproof recipe which you can prepare without egg and you can even make it yellow without eggs by adding natural food colour like turmeric or saffron strands.

Whenever we crave for dessert, I always opt for quick dessert like custard, seviyan, kheer, fruit cream or no bake ladoo. This are always on my quick dessert list.

In my home we make dessert for every week and keep it in a refrigerator. So that we can have it for 1 week.

At my home everyone has a speciality like my grandmother makes the best kheer and jaggery roti, my mother makes amazing fruit cream and I make the custard, no-bake brownies and coconut balls.

Every time you prepare this eggless custard you can give it a twist and you won’t get bored. all the different variation are mentioned below.

I have garnished the custard with some pomegranate and bananas to add more unique flavour.

Eggless vanilla custard recipe step by step with pictures:

1. In a pot or saucepan add sugar, cornstarch, milk powder and salt. Combine it well. Then add milk in it and again mix. Through this step all the ingredients will be combined nicely.

2. Cook it on low flame by stirring more often with a hand whisk. After a few minutes, the sugar will be dissolved and it will start to become thick.

3. Make sure to stir continuously to avoid burning it from bottom and also to avoid lumps. Cook it on low flame, don’t rush the process.

4. When the mixture turns thick, turn off the flame and add vanilla essence or vanilla extract or if you have vanilla bean then that can be also used.

You can check if the sauce is thick, by dipping the back laddle or a spoon in the custard, if it coats the back of laddle or spoon then that’s perfect consistency.

5. Pour the custard to the bowl in which you want to serve or any container and you top it with fruits if you want or have it plain, then let it cool.

6. When cooled serve it at that time or if you want to have it cold then refrigerate it.

Tips for perfect vanilla custard:

  • Instead of vanilla essence, cardamom powder or cinnamon powder can be added.
  • Make sure to cook the custard on low flame by stirring continuously, don’t rush the process.
  • Cornstarch can be replaced with tapioca starch or rice flour.
  • It can be served cooled or at normal room temperature.
  • If you want jiggly jello texture then refrigerate for one hour.

Variations:

  • For chocolate flavoured custard, add cocoa powder to the mixture, according to this recipe add 3 tablespoon cocoa powder to the mixture. That’s it.😀
  • For fruit and nut flavour add chopped dry fruits and chopped fruits like Apple, kiwi, grapes, banana, papaya etc.
  • For mango custard prepare mango puree and add that pure into the cooked and cooled plain custard.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoon milk powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

Instructions

  1. In a sauce pan add 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 2 tablespoon milk powder, a pinch of salt and mix it nicely with a spatula.
  2. Then add 2 cup of milk and again mix it with the help of whisk so that no lumps are formed in the custard.
  3. Then cook the mixture at low flame by stirring continuously, After 15 minutes of continuous cooking my custard my thick. So yours custard will be thicken after 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Don’t rush the process while cooking, cook it on low flame for best result.
  5. You can check if the sauce is thick or not by by dipping the back of laddle or a spoon in the custard, if it coats the back of laddle or spoon then that’s perfect consistency.
  6. When the custard thicken turn off the flame and add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence in it and mix it.
  7. Then pour the custard in the serving bowl, garnish it with some fruits of choice if you want or leave it plain and let it cool.
  8. When cooled serve it or you can refrigerate it as well for jiggly jello texture.
  9. It can be served at normal room temperature or cold as well.
